Officially it is best to wait until your new puppy is 8 weeks old, and can leave their mother before you consider getting them groomed. Once the puppy has been introduced to its new home and has established relations with the new owner they can think about getting the puppy groomed.
Shorter, finer hair requires much less maintenance than long, thick fur. Most owners of cats or dogs with longer fur opt to take their pet to the groomers once every 4-6 weeks, while shorter-haired breeds may only visit every 8-12 weeks.
Your puppy’s first groom will include a bath and blow dry, nails trimmed, ears cleaned, and light trimming if it’s a long-haired breed, around the paws, sanitary, bum, and under the pads, and around the eyes. We tend to take things slow, because there are a lot of noises a new people and new surroundings for your new puppy to get used to. Our goal is to ensure, that your puppy enjoys the grooming process. Puppies require the utmost care, so sometimes we won’t be able to complete the entire service, due to your puppy not being used to the entire process. Don’t be deterred though, if you are responsible pet parent and listen to your groomer and the schedule that you should maintain, your puppy will be a pro in no time. It just may take a little bit of patience at first!
There is an app that you can get called the clipper app. It will make the sounds of a clipper, so that you are puppy can get used to those noises. Another thing we suggest is making sure 2 touch your puppies feet, ears and tail, and gentley massage around their heads and body getting them used to gentle human touch regularly.
I don’t suggest this! However if you decide got you want to wash and dry your puppy yourself, be sure to be gentle with the water, and be sure to dry your puppy’s coat fully and brush them out fully so they don’t get a matted coat. However,It is best to go to the groomers for the first few times.
